With February being home to both ‘heart month’ and Valentine’s Day, we can’t think of a better time to show yourself some love! Some of the easiest, small changes you can make to becoming more ‘heart healthy’ are choosing whole grains and lean proteins, lowering your sodium intake and eating more vegetables.
While sometimes beef and other fattier meats can get a bad rep in the ‘heart healthy’ category, lean cuts (round, sirloin, chuck, loin) are perfectly fine in moderation. Keep your diet well balanced by also including fish high in omega 3’s and skinless chicken or turkey.
We also understand that sometimes something that is described as ‘low sodium,’ ‘lean,’ or ‘skinless’ may sound slightly unappealing. Here are some of our favourite heart healthy recipes (including one straight from the Beretta Kitchen’s Chef Tobias) to keep both your heart and your taste buds happy.
