Packing your children a nutritional lunch is one of the best things a parent could do. Kids need all the nutrition they can get when spending a full 8 hour day learning at school. At the Beretta household I made sure that all three kids went to school with packed lunches that both were good for them but also something they would enjoy. There is nothing worse than finding remnants of a good old “I’ll trade you this for that” in the lunchbox. I wanted to ensure that my kids loved what they got in there lunch and it didn’t come back exactly how it left. Here are a few samples of what I would pack my kids for their lunch:
- Leftover pasta with Beretta ground beef: This is always a good alternative to the same old sandwich debacle. Whenever it was pasta night at the Beretta household, the kids specifically made me make extra to ensure their lunches would have some.
- Hot dogs: Hot dogs are an oldie but goodie. With the recent launch of our organic hot dogs you don’t have to feel bad about sending your kids to school with mystery meat but instead a wholesome meal that they will for sure love.
- Ham/turkey sandwich: This one really tests your memory skills. One child likes cheese but one doesn’t while the other insists on not having lettuce. My plan of action was to start by doing one child’s lunch entirely first and then start on the next so no mix ups happen.
- Homemade pizza: This was my kid’s personal favourite. Nothing like opening your lunchbox and finding a delicious savory pizza. This is really easy to make the night before with all sorts of tasty toppings. This lunch will be an automatic hit with your kids.
With all this being said there is no point in trying to fight with your kids to eat their lunches but instead settle in the middle. Make something you know they will enjoy but choose your ingredients wisely with nutrition in the back of your mind!
