Easter Eggs For Everyone!
The Easter Egg Hunt is one of our favorite pastimes here on the farm; and there isn’t just one way our family likes to enjoy it. We bring home beautifully wrapped chocolates to get the kids excited, we also do hand painted farm eggs for a fun family activity on a weekend afternoon, and last but definitely not least , an exciting scavenger hunt to work up an appetite for our Easter feast!
Over the years, we’ve come up with a few key ways to keep Easter a healthy and sustainable holiday and it is our pleasure to share these tips with you all.
Chocolate Easter Eggs
Conventional chocolate eggs are delish, but they come with a price. A few actually, being full of additives, preservatives and LOADS of refined sugars. Here are two options to give your family the healthiest possible treats.
Make your own with the kids!
It’s easier than you may think. With only 5 ingredients and a few steps per flavor, if you’re feeling your inner Martha is being stirred up this season, give this tasty recipe a try!
Purchase Online
Purchasing your festive chocolates can free up a lot of time for you to be able to enjoy other activities with your family, though you don’t have to sacrifice quality to do so. Check out what one of our favorite Canadian, healthy chocolatier has whipped up for us all this season. And of course, they’re organic and fair trade!
Scavenger Hunt
We’re all about getting the family up and running around the farm, for a challenging scavenger hunt. They are way to fun not to get the ‘rents in on it so Mike and Cynthia are always in on the game! Check out this list of scavenger hunt ideas for kids, and adults too.
Non Toxic Egg Paint
Painting Easter eggs is a favorite tradition in many households, yet unfortunately we need to screen the boxes to make sure the paints don’t contain toxic dyes. Here are the top 5 dyes you want to avoid as they can lead to serious health issues long term:
- Citrus red 2
- Blue #1 and Blue #2
- Red #3 and Red #40
- Yellow #5
- Yellow #6
Luckily, finding non-toxic paints and dyes at Easter is easier than in recent years, and they’re made from fruit coloring so you can be sure to eat the eggs post hunt! Even if there is residue on the egg once peeled it will still taste great in an egg salad or egg tartine recipe! Order your non-toxic Easter egg paint here.
