Every March as the snow (hopefully) starts to slowly melt away, Canadians come together to celebrate the nations favourite sweet treat.
Often seen as an indication of spring, maple syrup season is upon us when average temperatures are around +5 degrees Celsius during the day and -5 degrees Celsius during the night, as it is this temperature combination that allows the starch the trees have stored all winter to convert into the sugary sap that can be tapped. Because this sap is processed with heat to evaporate much of the water and leave us with the concentrated syrup we love so much, it actually takes 40L of sap to make 1L of maple syrup!
We’re fans of anything Canadian and pure Maple syrup is about as natural as something can get, so we’ve rounded up a few sweet and savory recipes that you can use in celebration of this famous tradition and delicious sweet treat, while proving that maple syrup isn’t just for pancakes. Don't forget though, if you're not in the mood to whip something up from scratch we also sell our delicious Maple Breakfast Sausages!
