Bursting with flavour this decadent dessert will have guests raving for the recipe. These are an upgrade from your average donut with imaginative toppings that complement the sweet and salty mixture perfectly. This dessert will be a perfect companion for your coffee or tea.
Candied Bacon
- 6 slices Bacon
- 1/4 c Brown Sugar
- ¼ c white sugar
- Combine both sugars.
- Cook Bacon slices on a rack in the oven until nearly crisp. Around 8 minutes at 400.
- Pour Bacon fat into a bowl and reserve.
- Remove from the oven and immediately pat dry with paper towel and while they are still hot toss them in the sugar mixture.
- Return them to the rack and sprinkle with a little of the sugar mixture.
- Cook around 4 more minutes, watch carefully so it doesn’t burn.
- Remove from oven to cool.
- Chop into bits.
Maple Glaze
- ¾ c maple syrup
- ¾ c Butter
- ¾ c icing sugar
Whisk all ingredients and simmer for 2 minutes.
Bacon Doughnuts
- .5 oz dry yeast
- ¼ c warm water
- 1 ½ c warm milk
- ½ c white sugar
- 1 tsp kosher salt
- 2 eggs
- 1/3 c bacon fat
- 5 c All Purose flour
- Combine yeast and water in a large bowl. Stir and let stand for 5 minutes, until foamy.
- Add remaining ingredients and stir until combined. Turn onto a table and knead dough for 5 minutes. Place dough in a greased bowl. Cover with a plastic bag and let rise until it doubles in size.
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface. Roll to ½” thick.
- Using a larger and smaller ring cut doughnuts. Place the doughnuts on a tray on top of a greased piece of parchment paper. Cover loosely in plastic wrap until they have risen to twice the original size.
- Using a oiled spatula carefully place the doughnuts intp a deepfryer set to 350f. When golden turn over to cook the other side. Remove from oil and place on a cooling rack.
Final Presentation
- 250 ml Nutella
- Warm Nutella in a bain marie until it becomes a little softer.
- Drop eachdoughnut into the Maple Glaze while it is still hot, turn them over once and return to the cooling rack.
- Let sit 1 minute for glaze to adhere. The apply a thick layer of Nutella to one side of each doughnut by pressing it into the bowl of nutella and spinning it slowly as you remove it.
- Sprinkle with Candied Bacon
