We’re always striving to better ourselves and there’s no better time to do it than with a New Year’s resolution. But, more often than not, we stumble and struggle to stick with them. Whether you resolution is to exercise more or eat healthier, we’ve come up with some tips to keep in mind to help you achieve your goals for 2015.
- Set achievable goals. When you make your resolution, it’s important to set goals that are achievable so that you don’t get discouraged by lofty expectations.
- It takes two weeks to form a habit. Whatever you resolution might be, keep in mind it takes two weeks to form a habit. Once you’ve reached the two week mark and you’ve stuck to your resolution, the odds are pretty good you will stay with it.
- Tell friends and family about your goals. Not only will this help to create a support group to cheer you on but it will keep you accountable to those you’ve told.
- Set incremental markers. Setting one large goal far away can make you lose motivation because it could encourage you to push it off. Set monthly goals that will lead up to your main goal. This will help to map your progress and keep you motivated.
- Allow yourself a cheat day. Whether it’s eating your favourite snack or watching some television instead of going out for a jog, it’s okay to indulge a little bit. Just make sure it doesn’t become habit.
Following these tips along with healthy eating and exercise should help you get on the right foot to not only sticking to your New Year’s resolution but to achieving them, too!
